Through the local hackerspace I had access to a batch of over 100 of these mechanical splitflap units to play with. This is a test setup i built as a warm up exercise for my self (and as a proof of concept for someone else :) for a bigger installation I'm hoping to build. It is controlled by a raspberry pi talking SPI to 4 port expanders wich control 16 stepper motor driver chips for the 32 characters.
