Description: During my annual visits to Kaua'i, I like to visit the taro fields near Hanalei and photograph the ae‘o ty hat feed there. They generally fly away when humans or other potential predators approach, but patience is often rewarded with unpredictable moments when these graceful birds forage for food and communicate with one another with loud high-pitched chirps.
