Description: This group was formed in the mid 50s when all four members were high-school students in Detroit: Levi Stubbs, Abdul 'Duke' Fakir, Renaldo 'Obie' Benson and Lawrence Payton first performed at a local birthday party and stayed together. They first named themselves the 'Four Aimes' but due to avoid conflict with the 'Ames Brothers' they changed that name to 'Four Tops'. Their first 7 years under a record label was without any hits so they joined 'Motown' in 1964. Their first hit was 'Baby I Need Yo
