_first-glimpse-of-adorable-wild-cat-kittens-captured-on-camera.webp "Kitten births in the wild signal hope for Critically Endangered wildcats. credit Saving Wildcats<br/>Wildlife conservationists have announced the birth of wildcat kittens in the Cairngorms National Park.<br/>Following the release of 19 wildcats last summer by the Saving Wildcats partnership, led by the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland, at least two females have given birth in the wild. This marks a significant milestone in the project’s efforts to restore the wildcat to Scotland, after the species was determined to be on the verge of extinction in 2018.<br/><br/>Dr Keri Langridge, Saving Wildcats Field Manager, said,<br/><br/>“We suspected that some of the females had given birth when their movement and activity changed very suddenly but didn’t know for sure until footage of the kittens was captured on our cameras.<br/><br/>“With the support of local landowners, gamekeepers and the local community, our field team has successfully managed to monitor and film these kittens in the wild – which is no simple task. We have taken extreme care not to disturb the mother and kittens, and we carry out all monitoring work under licence from NatureScot.<br/><br/>“We didn’t dare to dream that we would have wildcat kittens in the first year of releases, and seeing those kittens on the video was the most exciting moment of the project so far.”<br/><br/>Dr Helen Senn, lead for Saving Wildcats, said,<br/><br/>“This is a major milestone for wildcat recovery in Scotland. These births demonstrate that the process of breeding wildcats for release into the wild is working, as those released animals have learned to hunt and survive – and now reproduce in their first breeding season, a clear indication that they are doing well.")

_aldi-reveals-five-priority-areas-where-it-wants-to-open-new-stores-in-yorkshire.webp "Aldi has revealed five priority areas where it hopes to open new stores in Yorkshire.<br/>Last month, the UK’s fourth largest supermarket asked the public to make suggestions for potential new locations and received more than 4,000 requests.<br/><br/>It has now reviewed the list of locations and used it to develop its store search over the coming years.<br/><br/>The company said as a result, the priority areas in Yorkshire where it is currently looking include Fulwood in Sheffield, Harrogate, Horsforth, Roundhay and York.<br/><br/>The retailer currently has more than 1,020 stores and is committed to continuing towards its long-term target of more than 1,500 stores across the UK.<br/><br/>Jonathan Neale, Managing Director of National Real Estate at Aldi UK, said: “We want to make high quality food accessible to all, but we can’t do that while there are still some towns and areas that either don’t have an Aldi or have capacity for additional stores.<br/><br/>“We recognise there is huge demand in certain regions for more stores, which is why we decided to get the public’s input on our latest list of priority locations. They have helped us identify where demand is greatest and we will continue to work to bring Aldi to as many people as possible.”<br/><br/>Anybody who has a site that may fit Aldi’s requirements is asked to contact realestateacquisitions@aldi.co.uk.<br/><br/>Each site should be able to accommodate a 20,000 sq ft store with around 100 parking spaces. Ideally the location will be near a main road with good visibility and access.")
