Description: In spring of 2017, the snow was beginning to melt in the high country, and soon the mule deer that winter in the Red Desert would begin their spring migration north. But Jet wasn't one of them. Jet, the middle-aged doe whose migration we have shared on www.facebook.com/migrationinitiative since 2015, died over winter. She still had a fawn with her when we caught up with her in December, but she had no measureable rump fat. Her lack of fat is a clear cost of nursing her fawn all summer and autumn
