WASEP was initiated in 1997 with the aim of providing integrated water supply infrastructure services to the local communities of Gilgit-Baltistan and Chitral, and to help prevent water related diseases through improved hygiene and sanitation practices.Like many mountain communities of the developing world, Gilgit-Baltistan and Chitral remain some of the most destitute regions in Pakistan and continue to suffer due to the inadequate quality and coverage of water and sanitation infrastructure.
