DUMBARTON ROCK.<br/><br/>Waverley passes Dumbarton Rock on her way to dry dock.<br/><br/>This morning Waverley set off from Glasgow for her annual round of dry dock inspections and maintenance. <br/>Waverley is expected to be in dry dock for around 10 daysbefore returning to Glasgow for final preparations ahead of the crew joining in early May.<br/><br/>WAVERLEY COMES BACK TO LIFE - Engine & Paddles turn for the first time this year!<br/>Waverley’s boilers were lit on Tuesday (2nd April) with steam slowly being raised to full working pressure. <br/>On Wednesday the engine room pumps were operated with the main engine turning today (Thursday) as we test systems and equipment on Waverley ahead of moving to dry dock in the coming week. <br/>This winter has seen some work carried out on the main engine with new parts being fitted. Elsewhere around the ship several contractors are currently working to complete their work scope including the refurbishment works in the crew accommodation. <br/>Waverley is expected to be in dry dock for around 10 days before returning to Glasgow for final preparation ahead of the crew joining in early May. During May the ship will undertake trials before her first passenger sailing on Friday 17th May. <br/>You can book tickets for all sailings up to Sunday 25th August at waverleyexcursions.co.uk or by calling our booking office on 0141 243 2224.

We have Jack, who resides in the bar. He is quite a mischievous ghost.<br/><br/>''Jack was supposed to be a sailor, and the story goes that he was taken out on to the moors and murdered.''<br/><br/>Jamaica Inn’s paranormal prankster Jack is alleged to move drinks, and he is frequently blamed for spilled pints and smashed glasses.<br/><br/>But recently the CCTV cameras in the bar have caught him in the act, knocking a drinker’s beverage flying from the table.<br/><br/>Katy said: “They were sat at one of the tables in the main bar, very close to where Jack is supposed to sit.<br/><br/>“I have definitely experienced things here that I cannot explain.”<br/><br/>Local legend says that the ghost of Jack has been wandering the ancient inn and nearby moors for well over a century.<br/><br/>Jamaica Inn’s paranormal manager Karin Beasant said: “A lovely barmaid called April, it was a Sunday night, round about half past ten, she was doing the cleaning, as you can see from the footage. <br/><br/>''You see her turn her head because she hears the bar door open but no one enters. <br/><br/>''There was no one left in the bar, and then from another angle, you see the phone that’s on the wall lift up and fly across and drop. <br/><br/>''That scared her… but the staff are so used to things like this. I look at it this way, it’s his idea of fun, of a jest.”<br/><br/>Host of new show Weird Britain, Andy McGrath said “For all we know, these spirits are watching us every day, they’ve picked up on the technology and Jack’s saying ‘April, I just called to say I love you!’”<br/><br/>Edd Francis and Paul Cowmeadow of the Weird Britain Paranormal Research Team have certified the historic hotel as a haunted location.<br/><br/>Edd said: “The rich history and multitude of witnesses to paranormal activity at this site going back many, many decades is already compelling enough, but for many believers this new footage really will be the cherry on the cake.”<br/><br/>Paul added: “The footage certainly is very interesting. With such a stunningly preserved old inn, in such a beautiful part of the world, with all the promise of meeting Jack, I can see why the Jamaica Inn is such a popular and loved place, and would thoroughly recommend a visit.”")
