Description: Each year, the last event on the Lightning Ridge Easter Festival calendar is the Miner Of The Year Challenge. Contestants shovel opal dirt into a blower pipe, simulating the mine face cleanup operation that takes place underground during the opal mining process. Each contestant receives the same volume of opal dirt - fastest time to complete is the winner. Mark King is the defending champion from 2016 and 2017, and was back to defend his title in 2018. How did he do? Watch the video to find out.
