Description:
One in 10 adults has a ‘floordrobe’ - where most of their clean clothes end up piled on the floor, according to a study.

Other unconventional ways to store clothes include a pile on a chair, in the washing basket and a suitcase.

A study of 2,000 people found 44 per cent confessed to being guilty of simply chucking their clothes in a heap after they’ve been worn.

Nearly nine in 10 (87 per cent) even have clothes they never wear - because they’ve forgotten they existed, are too crumpled - or can’t be found at all.

As a result, 27 per cent have items of clothing they’re not able to wear regularly, according to the study for Lenor Crease Releaser.

In response to these findings, the laundry company has teamed up with organising experts, The Style Sisters, to address this phenomenon and help tame the nation's 'floordrobes.'

They shared their expertise, emphasising the importance of organisation and offering practical tips to help the nation reclaim its wardrobe space.

The Style Sisters said: \

One in three Brits 'hate' unexpected phone calls and a quarter rarely or never answer them.

A poll of 2,000 adults found 31 per cent ‘panic’ when the phone rings - especially if it’s from an unknown number or someone they haven’t heard from in a while.

As many as 40 per cent prefer to know when someone is going to ring them, and half simply won’t pick up a call that they’re not expecting.

But for anyone planning to ring someone without pre-warning, try doing it in the afternoon – as it’s the time people are most likely to actually pick up.

The study was commissioned by Buffalo Trace Distillery [www.BuffaloTraceDistillery.co.uk] ahead of the opening its first store outside of the USA, on 6th May.

The whiskey brand also turned an iconic British phone box green in Covent Garden and challenged passers-by to answer a call from inside, with those who dared to pick up the phone getting an exclusive tasting experience.

Andrew Duncan, global brand director for the brand, said: “It’s clear spontaneity is becoming a lost art form.

“And we think that’s a shame because many of life’s greatest experiences happen when one commits to living what we like to call perfectly untamed – bolder, more daring, and less afraid of the unknown.

“We believe fortune favours the bold, and picking up the phone has the potential to result in some amazing adventures.”

The study also found nearly 37 per cent are less likely to pick up an unexpected call now than they were five years ago.

Although while 30 per cent of men prefer to plan everything in their lives and could never do something spontaneously, only 23 per cent of women felt the same.

Similarly, 72 per cent of women are more likely to answer the phone from an unknown number, compared to 57 per cent of men.

And 12 per cent said it’s been a week or longer since they spoke to someone on the phone – with some not even remembering the last time.

Instead, 26 per cent prefer to communicate via social media rather than using their voice on a phone line.

But the research, carried out via OnePoll, found 23 per cent of those who have answered a call they weren’t expecting revealed it led to something surprisingly good.

Andrew Duncan added: “As communication moves more online, it’s natural to feel less comfortable with picking up the phone when it rings, but there really is no substitute for tangible moments of connection with others.

“We wanted to remind people that sometimes, the unexpected call can lead to simple but important delights, like spending quality time with friends and family.

“Unexpected moments shared over a glass of whiskey are, unsurprisingly, some of our favourites.”

One in four adults prefer it firm in the bedroom - when it comes to mattresses, at least.

But a study of 2,000 adults revealed 28 per cent thought they'd prefer a firm mattress only to realise they need something softer.

And 23 per cent are currently sleeping on something they’re not totally happy with.

To show how to make the right decision, eveSleep created an updated version of the children's classic 'The Princess and the Pea'.

At a pop-up event, they created two stacks of mattresses - with one hiding a giant size pea underneath.

Consumers were put to the test to see if they were sensitive sleepers and could detect the hidden ‘pea’ while lying on a stack of mattresses.

Lisa Richards from the online mattress maker, which commissioned the research to launch wunderflip, its double-sided adaptive comfort range, said: “Sleep isn't just a luxury, it's a necessity for a healthy life - the right mattress is your partner in achieving that rejuvenating rest.

“It's about finding the perfect balance of support and comfort to ensure you wake up every morning feeling refreshed and ready to take on the world.

“Your mattress plays a crucial role in the quality of your sleep, affecting everything from your mood to your productivity the next day.

“That’s why we’re helping keen snoozers make the right choice when shopping online, giving them a choice of two different comfort ratings.”

The study also revealed of those who don’t like their current mattress, 43 per cent said it causes them more discomfort than it does relief.

And sleeping on an unsuitable mattress is most likely to lead to pain in the lower back (56 per cent) or the neck (36 per cent).

While 27 per cent will feel the strain across the shoulders, and 14 per cent will even report pain in their legs.

More than a quarter (26 per cent) even admit the quality of their mattress will ‘very much’ impact their mood on any given morning.

And 32 per cent admit they have trouble falling asleep regularly, according to the OnePoll.com figures.

The ‘Bed Battle: Team Firm vs Team Soft’ experience will take place at Gallery@Oxo in London’s Southbank from Thursday 2nd May to Sunday 5th May.

Lisa Richards added: \

Home to the revered shrine of Sufi saint Salim Chishti and the imposing red sandstone fortress built by Emperor Akbar, Fatehpur Sikri stands as a testament to the grandeur of the Mughal era. In the upcoming elections, the Fatehpur Sikri seat finds itself delicately poised, with both the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress party setting their sights on clinching victory. The Congress, contesting 17 seats in Uttar Pradesh as part of its alliance with the Samajwadi Party under the INDIA bloc, has fielded Ramnath Sikarwar, popularly known as 'Fauji Baba,' to take on the BJP's sitting MP, Rajkumar Chahar. Chahar, who had secured a resounding victory in 2019 by defeating Raj Babbar, the then-state Congress president, with a margin of five lakh votes, faces twin challenges this time around. Not only is he grappling with internal party conflicts over his candidature, but he also finds himself confronted with significant anti-incumbency sentiment.

Pankaj Mishra, Imran Shah and Rajender Bhandari visited Fatehpur Sikri report.

#LokSabhaPolls2024
#LokSabhaPolls
#FatehpurSikriLokSabhaPoll
#CongressVsBJP
~HT.99~PR.100~PR.282~CA.144~
