Description: For the first time, scientists have calculated the rotation speed of a supermassive black hole, and they found that it is spinning at nearly the speed of light, the limit of what is possible, according to Einstein’s Theory of Relativity. Measuring the spin rate of black holes provides valuable clues about their formation.nnScience Bulletins is a production of the National Center for Science Literacy, Education, and Technology (NCSLET), part of the Department of Education at the American Museum
