Ford Performance has secured its second victory in a row at the gruelling Finke Desert Race with the Ford Ranger Raptor securing the Production 4WD class win with a final time of five hours, fifty-eight minutes, and twenty-three seconds (5:58:23).<br/><br/>Driven by Brad Lovell, and navigated by Byam Lovell, the #773 Ranger Raptor was the only vehicle in its class to finish both legs of the 2024 event which pushed man and machine to the limit in out Outback test of performance and endurance.<br/><br/>The back-to-back victory comes after a multi-day back-and-forth battle for the Production 4WD crown. During the run from Alice Springs to Aputula (Finke) the Ranger Raptor set a scorching early pace, overtaking its key rival 55 kilometres into the race after starting three minutes behind the first starter in class.<br/><br/>However, the 2024 Finke Desert Race wasn’t without its challenges, with the Ranger Raptor facing mechanical issues while pushing hard out on the course. Brad and Byam drove the final 130km of the track on day one with broken left-rear suspension, yet still managed to finish the first leg of the event five minutes faster than 2023 with a time of three hours and 35 seconds (3:00:35), and only losing four minutes to the class leader. This was the first failure of its kind that the Ford Australia Ranger Raptor engineers have experienced – a testament to the extreme conditions thrown up by this year’s Finke race and to the capability of the Ranger Raptor.

We wanted to go the complete opposite, so we did a yellow truck, black camper with some graphics on it to really catch your eye and make a splash in the market.” The addition of the Hellwig rear sway bar provides enhanced control while carrying the camper, which features a full audio system, TV, fridge, bed, full-size wet bath, and living area. To accommodate all the added weight, Mike and his team also added Falken Wildpeak AT3W LT 325/65R18 tyres, which beefed-up the truck’s on and off-road handling capabilities. Mounted on the front bumper are Baja design lights, fog lights, projection lights, and a full light bar that allows the driver visibility while traveling at night or off-roading. The whole thing is powered by a Cummins 5.0L V8 turbo diesel engine.")

_work-starts-on-new-housing-development-for-saundersfoot.webp "A Saundersfoot county councillor has reaffirmed his hope that a new housing development for the seaside village, currently under construction, will provide a big boost to local families looking for full-time accommodation, rather than be used as second homes.<br/>Plans for a new estate of 54 homes at land north of Whitlow were given the go-ahead by Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority planners last year, with a condition that 13 are not second homes.<br/>“There has been a great deal of interest in this site mainly from local residents and with the current 200% Council Tax on second homes, I sincerely hope that this site will encourage full time living,” said Cllr Chris Williams. <br/>“I feel that we have enough holiday homes around the village and certainly wouldn’t want to see this current development being used in this way.<br/>“Developers Morgan Construction has confirmed there will be 19 affordable properties on site and, hopefully, they will accommodate young families and individuals with Saundersfoot links who have struggled to find accommodation currently in the village.” <br/>Last month, Cllr Williams said he held a meeting with developers along with a long term resident from the Whitlow Estate, due to the concerns of some that reside and back onto the new construction site. <br/>“The meeting was very positive and we discussed many points that had been raised by a few owners of properties in Whitlow. We briefly discussed the recent early Saturday work,” he continued.<br/>“Moving forward, if weekend works are necessary, strict adherence to times outlined will be followed. <br/>“Any disruptive works or weekend work required will be communicated to local residents in advance. <br/>“Morgan Construction reassured everyone that it prides itself on the positive relationships they have had with surrounding communities in other developments and that weekend work is generally avoided.”<br/>Also discussed was the retaining wall at the rear of plots 1-13 and the possibility of continuing this and changing the back garden layout to avoid terraced gardens; with Morgan Construction noting that a 1.8-metre-high close board fence will be installed on top of the retaining wall, mitigating any privacy concerns for the existing properties on the Whitlow Estate. <br/>Cllr Williams also moved to clarify other concerns that had been raised, confirming that the nearby primary school will be able to quite easily accommodate 100 extra pupils; and that the village’s doctor’s surgery, which currently has just under 10,000 patients, with the capacity ratio for the staff and size allowing the facility to accept patients from the three new development sites in the village, as they will be in the catchment area.<br/>“Personally having grown up on Whitlow, there has been talk regarding building on these fields for nearly 30 years.
