Description: In the fall of 1923, the Denver & Rio Grande Western took delivery of ten new 2-8-2 locomotives. Built by the American Locomotive Company, they were first truly modern power on the narrow gauge. Soon after they became known as K-28's - K for Mikado-type and 28 for 28,000 pounds of tractive effort.
