Abortion clinics in North Carolina and Virginia are preparing for an influx of patients from Florida once its six-week abortion ban takes effect in May. In 2023, over 9,300 individuals traveled to Florida for abortion services, more than twice the number from 2020, and Florida conducted approximately 84,000 abortions that year. Florida clinics try to see as many patients as possible before the ban by adding ultrasound appointments. Traveling for an abortion is not an option for many due to a lack of resources.
