_police-vow-to-tackle-after-dark-anti-social-behaviour-on-tenby39s-beaches.webp "Instances of after dark anti-social behaviour regularly occurring on Tenby’s beaches , has seen Dyfed-Powys Police vow to step-up high visibility patrols in the area to ‘robustly’ tackle concerns.<br/>Members of the public have been asking what steps police authorities are taking to prioritise safety across Pembrokeshire’s popular beaches at night, following reports of anti-social behaviour regularly occurring late into the night on Friday and Saturday evenings especially, down on North and South beaches in Tenby.<br/>Examples of large groups of teenagers gathering early evening and after dark have highlighted concerns relating to underage drinking and drug-taking.<br/>Also, safety concerns have been raised over bonfires being started very close to the grass cliff areas alongside beaches, with one set of teenagers said to be seen ripping out trees specifically to set them alight.<br/>Operation Dawns Glaw - a campaign led by the Fire Service recently reformed to highlight incidents of deliberately set grass fires across Wales.<br/>A spokesperson for Dyfed-Powys Police said: “With the summer season almost upon us, the South Pembrokeshire Neighbourhood Policing Teams will once again be conducting high visibility patrols in the Tenby area, targeting anti-social behaviour and criminality.<br/>‘Tenby will see increased patrols, in addition to the Op Lion patrols, which are put in place for the summer months with the influx of visitors to the area.<br/>“Those responsible will be dealt with robustly to keep our communities safe. The team will be utilising all resources at their disposal including dispersal orders, community protection warnings and notices, striving to tackle problematic persons.<br/>“We will also be working with our partner agencies, the team at Tenby Harbour and the local community to continue to ensure that Tenby is a safe area to visit.<br/>“We want residents and visitors to the area to feel safe and enjoy one of Wales’ top tourist locations, we urge those who witness anti-social behaviour or have concerns to contact us.”<br/>Saundersfoot county councillor Cllr Chris Williams recently questioned whether Council Tax payers were getting enough ‘bang for their buck’ when it comes to seeing ‘bobbys on the beat’ around seaside communities, in light of recent tax demands going towards the police precept. <br/>“The police presence amongst the community doesn’t reflect the income they are receiving from communities such as Saundersfoot,” he remarked.<br/>Concerns at the level of policing in Pembroke were also raised recently by local county councillor and town councillor Jonathan Grimes, who stated: “Anti-social behaviour is on the rise, drug-taking is on the rise, and the police response is woefully inadequate at the moment.<br/>“It’s unusual to see police patrols after 10pm because most of the police patrols are carried out by PCSOs who normally finish at 10pm.”")
_new-kits-for-pembrokeshire-teams-thanks-to-39new-york-welsh39-network.webp "During the recent Bank Holiday, Tenby native Ty Francis MBE founder of the New York Welsh diaspora network - returned to his Pembrokeshire roots for a tour spanning three local rugby clubs, aimed at reinforcing the sport’s grassroots initiatives. <br/>Kicking off in Milford Haven, Ty gifted a new rugby kit to the Pembrokeshire Vikings, a mixed-ability squad led by Andrew Meddings and Simon Gardiner. <br/>Their commitment to creating a space where players of all abilities can thrive on the rugby field was celebrated with a #JerseyForAll. <br/>Notable attendees included co-sponsor Dom Barrett, MP Stephen Crabb, and MS Samuel Kurtz, with club captain and Special Olympics multi-gold medalist, Bleddyn Gibbs as the honoured guest.<br/>Ty then proceeded to Pembroke Ladies Rugby Team on Monday morning to unveil their latest kit, supported by the New York Welsh community, including contributions from Charlotte Jupp, originally from Saundersfoot, and Glenn Treacher of The Liberty NYC. Ty met with Jamie Barrellie, who oversees the hub, to celebrate the launch.<br/>This initiative held a personal touch for Francis, as the jerseys bore the initials ETS to honour his late aunt Estelle Townsend-Smith, a native of Narberth, who was also a staunch advocate for women's and disability sports. <br/>“She was a very proud supporter of what we do for female and disability sport, so it seemed fitting to have her initials on the sleeves,” he said.<br/>Since 2019, Ty along with his wife Alayna, a New York City Communications Executive, have been instrumental in equipping over a thousand Welsh individuals across women’s, girls’, and disability sports with new kits through their organisation, JerseyForAll.org<br/>Ty, a former Greenhill Comprehensive School pupil, expressed immense gratitude towards the local sports community in Wales and highlighted the invaluable support of all the volunteers. He voiced concern about challenges grassroots sports face, including a recent setback for Tenby United’s second XV by the Welsh Rugby Union, prompting questions about the union’s commitment to grassroots sports.<br/>“I’m thankful for the time and effort the coaches, managers, and volunteers put into supporting women’s and disability sport in Wales. Alayna and I are fortunate to be able to help provide the kits, but the real work gets done on and off the pitches by the players and support staff. <br/>“I’m also very grateful for the consistent support that Stephen Crabb MP and Sam Kurtz MS have offered. Grassroots sports are the lifeblood of local communities, and we are deeply disheartened to not see support from organisations like the Welsh Rugby Union and the Welsh Government.”")
