_st-issells-church-in-saundersfoot.webp "Drive-by flytippers targeting a Pembrokeshire church’s cemetery have been slammed by a local councillor.<br/>County councillor for Saundersfoot’s south ward Cllr Chris Williams who has been working with Pembrokeshire County Council to tackle illegal waste disposal around the village, highlighted recent abuse of bins that sit inside the grounds of St Issells Church, with occupants of vehicles driving past, disposing of their rubbish at the spot.<br/>“Whilst work was being done on behalf of Saundersfoot Community Council at the cemetery, it was noticed that these bins were being added to by cars pulling up. One vehicle was witnessed disposing of their rubbish just over the wall!” he remarked. <br/>“These bins are for the users of the cemetery and they are collected each week by the Community Council. <br/>“My view is that the cemetery is a place for peaceful thoughts and everyone who attends their loved one’s graves always clears up their discarded flower and bouquets and disposes them into the bins provided,” he continued.<br/>“This is a cost that Saundersfoot Community Council can’t keep covering and they are now potentially looking at moving the bins from the side of the road to a more suitable position in the cemetery for their users, so they don’t get abused. <br/>“I will fully support the Community Council on this and welcome its swift action in making the cemetery as clean as possible for anyone who visits.”<br/>A list of holiday let accommodation around Saundersfoot has been included in a trial to ensure that proper waste trade agreements are in place at properties, in line with Government guidelines regarding waste and recycling.<br/>“The majority of organisations have this in place and the transition period has gone relatively smoothly across the village,” said Cllr Williams.<br/>“However, there are still a few holiday let properties who continue to flaunt the rules and dispose of their rubbish into the many local bins. <br/>“One property guest showed me the information that was in the property pack recently, which I will quote – ‘Alternatively, you may wish to dispose of your non-recyclable household rubbish on a daily basis by using the local street bins’ <br/>“This is totally unacceptable and actions by a very small minority of unscrupulous holiday homeowners are giving the majority a bad name.<br/>‘“The matter was dealt with immediately and the property in question will now have to provide an agreement for their waste to PCC as they didn’t have one.”<br/>")

This work was successfully completed within a week,” said county councillor Chris Williams.<br/>Boats have now been lifted back into the harbour waters, and sluice gates are due to be replaced in June.<br/>“The tree works on the cliff are coming to an end and the next stage will involve significant work to stabilise parts of the cliff to ensure that the public can continue to enjoy walking around the harbour,” he continued. <br/>“The public toilets, provided by the harbour, are due to be painted over the next few weeks.”")

Talks and workshops at Kids Fest at the Lit Fest were led by award-winning Wales-based children's authors like Children’s Laureate for Wales Alex Wharton and Jonny Duddle.<br/>Aardman Animations led popular model-making and animation workshops alongside an array of free creative activities for families.<br/>This year’s festival broke new ground by embarking on a schools’ programme that delivered writing, poetry, performance and illustration workshops for 320 children across five of Llandeilo's nearby primary schools.<br/>Dafydd Iwan, Kate Humble, John Devereux, Alun Ffred, Siôn Rowlands and an evening of urban myths and legends were the weekend's big crowd pleasers, with tales of hiraeth, sport, crime, politics and more.<br/>The festival's largest programme of Welsh-language sessions to date featured many of Wales' homegrown literary stars, including National Eisteddfod prize-winning poet Sioned Erin Hughes and writer and broadcaster Myfanwy Alexander.<br/>Gŵyl Lên Llandeilo Lit Fest founder and co-chair Christoph Fischer said: “It's just so brilliant to see Llandeilo's literature festival go from strength-to-strength as we draw more crowds to our small town each year. _saundersfoot-active-travel-link-work-continues-to-connect-railway-station-to-seaside-village.webp "The ‘Active Travel Link’ project between Saundersfoot Railway Station and Valley Road continues, with works programmed to be completed by the end of May/June. <br/>The link along Station Road will have the final uncontrolled MUR crossing constructed, enabling connectivity to the MUR path that is within the remodelled junction. <br/>All clearance works have been completed on Fan Road/Station Road junction, with the temporary road surface installed during a recent road closure. <br/>“I have had complaints regarding pot holes and sunken drains on Fan Road, and when the road was shut recently, there were extensive repairs on the left hand side heading to The Ridgeway,” said county councillor for the seaside village’s south ward Cllr Chris Williams.<br/>“Other works were programmed and completed included verge reshaping works and edge of carriageway reconstruction.<br/>“Works to the junction area currently are focused on fencing and landscaping with trees and native species, alongside minor drainage works and the installation of the uncontrolled crossing noted previously.”<br/>A further road closure for Fan Road is due to commence on the week of May 13 to oversee the installation of a ’priority system’ to form a traffic calming feature and to reassign carriageway space.<br/>The status of the central Fan Road work, near the pond, has advanced to allow for the new path final construction.<br/>The subsequent fencing and path construction works will be completed alongside the final connecting section of MUR, which links to the substantially completed works at Bonville’s Court. <br/>These works are programmed for completion in June when the link will be operational.<br/>“Other Active Travel project works within the village are being considered,” continued Cllr Williams. <br/>“These are all part of a strategic corridor which will eventually provide a network of MUR facilities between Tenby, Penally and to the west Saundersfoot, Wisemans Bridge linking into existing National Cycle Network facilities. <br/>“Feasibility works from the village centre to Stammers Road and along Sandy Hill Road are being developed. <br/>“These proposals will be shared by the highways team in due course, alongside improvements to Milford Street/Cambrian Terrace and the mini roundabout junction.<br/>“Studies are ongoing to connect the primary school at Frances Lane to Frances Road, Coppet Hall and Wisemans Bridge. <br/>“Further upgrade works between Valley Road and the village centre along Brooklands Place are to be programmed to complete the active travel connection to Saundersfoot Railway Station,” he added.<br/>")
