Description: Consumer Reports analyzed pesticide residue data and found 6 fruits and vegetables with the highest risk - blueberries, watermelon, bell peppers, potatoes, green beans, and kale and mustard greens. Nearly half of domestic bell pepper samples contained a banned pesticide. Some green bean samples had pesticide levels over 100 times the safe level. Washing only helps somewhat as some pesticides are systemic in the produce. Choosing organic, limiting high-risk foods to half a serving per day, and freezing bulk organic fruits are recommendations. Sweet potatoes are a safer alternative to potatoes and cantaloupe to watermelon.
