Did you know, Nugent's Wood, Portaferry, Co Down, is also known as the Bluebell Wood?<br/>Last week during the fine sunny weather that we were having Darryl Armitage nipped down to Portaferry to capture the bluebells at Nugent's Wood.<br/>Reminding us of the fleeting beauty of nature, Bluebell season doesn't last too long so don't miss your chance to see them and breath in the delicate scent at Nugent's Wood.<br/>Bluebells Facts<br/>Almost half the world's bluebells are found in the UK – they’re relatively rare elsewhere.<br/>It's against the law to intentionally pick, uproot or destroy bluebells.<br/>Bluebell colonies take a long time to establish – around five to seven years from seed to flower.<br/>Bluebells can take years to recover after footfall damage. If a bluebell’s leaves are crushed, they die back from lack of food because they can no longer photosynthesise.<br/>If you plant bluebells in your garden, make sure you're planting the English bluebell, not the Spanish version. The Spanish species is a more vigorous plant and could outcompete the UK's native flower.

Gosh, how does it do that?'<br/><br/>The world No. 1 golfer would eventually tap his following putt in for par and didn't further damage his score.<br/><br/>He then went on to dominate the rest of the course - shooting five-under for the day to move to three-under for the tournament and vault into the top ten. <br/><br/>Scheffler would birdie the 13th hole and the 18th hole to move to even-par for the tournament.<br/><br/>After that, he birdied the first three holes of the front nine then parred his way out for a five-under 65 in the second round. <br/><br/>It comes a week to the day after his dramatic and shocking early morning arrest at the PGA Championship in Louisville, Kentucky.<br/><br/>After being booked for allegedly dragging a cop who hung on to his vehicle, Scheffler was charged with felony second-degree assault of a police officer, third-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving, and failure to obey signals from an officer directing traffic.<br/><br/>The felony charge could land Scheffler in prison for up to ten years.<br/><br/>There was speculation that the charges against the Masters champion would be dropped - or even reduced. <br/><br/>Instead, however, officials vowed to 'respect the legal process' and 'let it play out'.<br/><br/>The detective who arrested Scheffler, Bryan Gillis, was given 'corrective action' for his failure to activate his bodycam to record the situation.<br/><br/>'Detective Gillis should have turned on his body-worn camera, but did not,' Louisville police chief Jacquelyn Gwinn-Villaroel said at a press conference on Thursday. <br/><br/>Detective Gillis is facing further scrutiny with accusations that he once drove an 'intoxicated civilian' in his 'police vehicle' and did 'donuts' in a business parking lot.<br/><br/>At yesterday's first round, Scheffler struggled with the course - opening with two birdies and two bogeys on the front nine.<br/><br/>A triple bogey came on the 13th hole when his shot over a pond landed in the water and then his putt for double bogey rolled a foot past the hole.<br/><br/>He closed the day with a birdie on 17 to make his score two-over for the round.<br/><br/>After his arrest last week, Scheffler finished out the PGA Championship in a tie for eighth place after carding a 13-under for the tournament.")

_watch-protestors-39paddle-out39-for-pembrokeshire-peoples-rights-to-clean-water.webp "Crowds of protestors made up of surfers, cold water swimmers, kayakers, paddle boarders, coasteering companies, divers, lifeguards, and regular beach-going families took to a Pembrokeshire beach on a sunny weekend this month, with the message of ‘enough is enough, cut the crap!’<br/>As part of the national ‘Surfers Against Sewage’ Paddle Out Protests, campaigners took to the sea at Broad Haven beach on Saturday, May 18 demonstrating to the Government, along with water companies such as Dŵr Cymru, and regulators like Natural Resources Wales the will to stand up for people’s rights to clean water, and that those rightly concerned will not stop until there’s an end to sewage pollution.<br/>Broad Haven Buccaneers surf lifesaving club who were a part of the protests, along with local Blue Tit Chill Swimmers, revealed that the group were forced to cancel four beach lifesaving training days last summer due to sewage pollution.<br/>Also on hand to address the crowds was Pembrokeshire mother Jayne Etherington who offered a stark warning after her daughter Caitlin became seriously ill after becoming infected with e-coli following a swim in the sea at Amroth one August morning, at the height of summer!<br/>With such pollution threatening people’s health, Jayne told the crowd of campiagners: “This is about life and death! It’s about time something changed.”<br/>At the start of the week, the Wales Coast Award winners for 2024 were announced, spotlighting coastal sites achieving supposed ‘high standards’ required to receive what is meant to be a ‘prestigious’ Blue Flag.<br/>Preseli Pembrokeshire was polluted by sewage 7,659 times in 2023, lasting 91,401 hours - that's 10.58 years!<br/>Monitoring was disabled in some locations, so even more sewage could have found its way into our waters last year.<br/>Kate Evans of Planet CIC - one of the organisers of the protest, said: “The event was great - we were really pleased with the turn out.”<br/>Surfers Against Sewage has also created the ‘End Sewage Pollution Manifesto’ which has five very clear, key solutions to end sewage pollution and will be pushing the next Government to adopt their demands and give them their full backing.<br/><br/>Pic: Peter Bounds<br/>Video: Planet CIC")

The climber's family contacted officials after not hearing from them for several days via their InReach communication device. Rangers located the empty tent above 17,000 feet and determined the last sighting was two days prior at approximately 18,000 feet. Satellite data indicated that the InReach device had not moved since May 16th and rangers later confirmed the climber's death using a spotting scope to locate the probable fall area. Recovery efforts will be attempted when the weather allows, and identity will be released after notifying the family.")
