Description:
If you travel to a remote island resort, where do the people who work there live? Because of course, if we are traveling to a remote location, it’s highly unlikely that it’s an easy place for hotel staff to commute to and from. Typically on an island resort, staffers are housed in the middle of the island and don’t have access to the beach, the walking paths, or any of the amenities that make these destinations so appealing to travelers.
But there’s a new type of staff housing pioneered by the Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Fari Islands, which created an entire island for its employees—one where they can also snorkel, swim, relax, eat, work out, and just generally soak in the Maldives. This week’s guest, Sally Kohn, traveled to the resort last year to get a peek at the island and see if it’s really as impressive as it seems. She was surprised by what she found—happy employees included.

Read the full transcript here: https://rebrand.ly/7zlj95p

Discover more episodes of the Unpacked by AFAR podcast here:
https://link.chtbl.com/AFARYouTubeUnpacked

----
CONNECT WITH AFAR
Afar.com is a digital and print magazine that publishes travel tips, guides, news, and stories: https://www.afar.com

Get updates on the latest articles, travel news, and more from AFAR by signing up for the AFAR newsletter: https://afar.com/newsletters

Follow AFAR on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/AfarMedia
Follow AFAR on Twitter: https://twitter.com/afarmedia
Follow AFAR on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/afarmedia
Follow AFAR on Pinterest: https://www.pinterest.com/afarmedia
Subscribe to the podcast: https://link.chtbl.com/AFARYouTubeUnpacked

Lawyers in the Manhattan district attorney’s office, which is prosecuting Donald Trump in his first criminal trial, have long encouraged Michael Cohen to stay away from the press. They haven’t had much success. “The media attention was like catnip to him,” Mark Pomerantz, who once worked in the DA’s office, wrote in his inside account of his time. “We had no means of keeping him away from the cameras.”

It wasn’t only that Cohen, who had shadowed Trump for years, liked being in the limelight. Nor was it just that Cohen, whose life had been upended by Trump, wanted to humiliate his former boss. There was also money at stake–lots of it. In bashing Trump, Cohen has earned about $4.4 million over the last four years, averaging out to $1.1 million annually, or roughly double what his former boss paid him.

Read the full story on Forbes: https://www.forbes.com/sites/zacheverson/2024/05/24/michael-cohen-making-money-off-donald-trump/?sh=1e040a548aa9

Subscribe to FORBES: https://www.youtube.com/user/Forbes?sub_confirmation=1

Fuel your success with Forbes. We’ve all been there: Tossing and turning on a long-haul flight, or in an unfamiliar hotel bed. But it doesn’t have to be this way! Enter Anne Bartolucci, a licensed psychologist and a certified behavioral sleep medicine specialist. She’s the founder of Atlanta Insomnia & Behavioral Health Services, P.C. and the author of Better Sleep for the Overachiever. In other words, she knows her sleep—and she specializes in helping people improve their sleep without medication.
In this week’s episode, host Aislyn Greene chats with Anne about the one thing everyone should bring on their next flight, the proper use of melatonin (turns out most of us don’t use it correctly), and yes, how to get a decent night’s sleep in a new destination.

Read the full transcript here: https://rebrand.ly/g8ibal1

Discover more episodes of the Unpacked by AFAR podcast here:
https://link.chtbl.com/AFARYouTubeUnpacked

----
CONNECT WITH AFAR
Afar.com is a digital and print magazine that publishes travel tips, guides, news, and stories: https://www.afar.com

Get updates on the latest articles, travel news, and more from AFAR by signing up for the AFAR newsletter: https://afar.com/newsletters

Follow AFAR on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/AfarMedia
Follow AFAR on Twitter: https://twitter.com/afarmedia
Follow AFAR on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/afarmedia
Follow AFAR on Pinterest: https://www.pinterest.com/afarmedia

A man has struck up an unlikely friendship with robins which he has hand fed every day for eleven years.

Karl Shelton, 49, was out walking his dog one day when one of the birds came down and flew onto the ground.

The following day, Karl returned to the same spot with a piece of flapjack.

Every day, the red-breasted garden bird got closer and closer and Karl has now created a community of local robins, which join him for a meal twice a day.

Karl started this habit 11 years ago now and has fed some of the birds for up to seven years.

The issue of homelessness—or being unhoused, or facing housing scarcity—isn’t something we often talk about when it comes to travel, unless it’s in a negative sense. In this episode, however, we’re going to meet a London-based tour company that’s working on bringing homelessness into the tourism narrative.

It’s called Unseen Tours, a nonprofit founded in 2010 by Jayni Gudka. It offers London tours that touch on many of the city’s most popular sites and neighborhoods—Soho, King’s Cross—with a twist: They’re led by individuals who were once homeless. But the tours are not poverty tourism. They’re history-rich, city-focused walking excursions led by people with a very special kind of knowledge.

Read the full transcript here: https://rebrand.ly/i5bqld2

Discover more episodes of the Unpacked by AFAR podcast here:
https://link.chtbl.com/AFARYouTubeUnpacked

----
CONNECT WITH AFAR
Afar.com is a digital and print magazine that publishes travel tips, guides, news, and stories: https://www.afar.com

Get updates on the latest articles, travel news, and more from AFAR by signing up for the AFAR newsletter: https://afar.com/newsletters

Follow AFAR on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/AfarMedia
Follow AFAR on Twitter: https://twitter.com/afarmedia
Follow AFAR on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/afarmedia
Follow AFAR on Pinterest: https://www.pinterest.com/afarmedia
Subscribe to the podcast: https://link.chtbl.com/AFARYouTubeUnpacked
