The Baja 1000 is a Mexican desert race which takes place annually in the Baja California Peninsula. It’s the longest point to point off-road race in the world, that's run in a single day. Josh McGuckin, one of Tope's mechanics, explained how much of a challenge preparing for the race was for the team. He told FutureStudiosCars: “Driving this car in the Baja 1000 can be summed up for me in one word, exhausting.” To an outsider the car would appear as just a “really old bugg” but once inside, “suddenly it just comes to life”. Starting with the VW Beetle was a huge undertaking for the team, as they had to modify the classic 1970 car to be suitable for the incredibly harsh conditions. However, the extreme nature of this race did take its toll on the well-loved vehicle, “every time you come back from a race, you’re constantly rebuilding and replacing everything”, Josh explained. The bugg may not be the fastest car, but it’s capable of doing the job for this team. And the teamwork paid off as Tope triumphantly reached the finish line. Josh spoke about his relief and elation, “every time we race this car, we learn something new.\")

Breaking up is a problem because they’re not Gen Z enough to ghost each other. At most, they hang around in the relationship until the love dissipates. Anything to not have “the talk”. In this normal universe, the film is certainly not called Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar, or anything on the lines of Sonu Ke Titu Ki Pyaar Ka Punchnama. But in Luv Ranjan’s universe, this same story is a bitter battle of sexes between a good-looking boy and a gorgeous girl who tries to leave him because – horror of horrors – she likes her independence and his family is too overbearing.<br/><br/>You can’t say Ranjan isn’t trying. If anything, this is him reacting to the criticism – that is, the (correct) accusations of casual misogyny bubble-wrapped in crowd-pleasing comedy – of his previous movies. You see, the women in those movies (Pyaar Ka Punchnama, Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety) were scheming, conniving caricatures who forced their boyfriends to choose between bromance and romance. Love was a messy war of ownership. But here, the conflict is centered on the woman’s inability to be cruel and manipulative; she is too evolved to be the quintessential Luv Ranjan heroine. (Coincidentally, actress Shraddha Kapoor’s breakout film, from 2011, was called Luv Ka The End). Her Nisha in this film is so nice that, rather than force poor Rohan (Ranbir Kapoor) to choose between his family and her, she attempts to do the nobler thing: Gaslight him into believing he’s the issue. Nisha would rather have Rohan reject her than the other way around. You see, her dishonesty is merely an expression of compassion. This is Luv Ranjan being progressive.<br/><br/>Never mind that Rohan, like his Kartik Aaryan-esque predecessors, decides to turn her predicament into a game. At stake is the incorruptible Indian idea of marrying not just the person, but also the family. In the pink corner lies Rohan’s courage to go from cold Casanova to heartbreaking martyr, and his pride of being a Momma’s Boy. In the blue corner lies Nisha’s reluctance to sacrifice her own ambitions at the altar of Rohan’s Barjatya-shaped love. There can be only one winner. At one point, he subjects Nisha to a sexist rant about women and jobs – except that he’s only pretending to be a horrible man. He’s pretending to be a Kabir Singh so that nobody blames her. For a moment, I was almost impressed by Luv Ranjan’s self-awareness to use toxic masculinity as a smokescreen.")

Someone flew in from New York. <br/><br/>“We’ve had a lot of Chinese tourists. We’ve been all over the world. <br/><br/>“We had a couple of Chinese girls come down from Sheffield on a landscape course. Back in China they’d heard even about us. <br/><br/>“We used to open the garden once a year to the public but we now share it with just family and friends.”<br/><br/>Marie started gardening as a hobby after she retired from her job as a transport planner in 1982.<br/><br/>When Tony retired as a GP a couple of years later, the couple dedicated their time to cultivating their garden paradise.<br/><br/>Marie recalled: “I used to work on the grass and the borders a little here and there.<br/><br/>“I had to stay in ear shot of the landline and we had four children in five years so we were very busy. <br/><br/>“The garden became a feature to keep them entertained. <br/><br/>“We started in 1992 to develop it. We made the garden safe for the kids and attracted the children. <br/><br/>“After ten years they got more sophisticated. Between 1992 and 1995 we landscaped all of it. We did it all ourselves, without any outside help. <br/><br/>“Tony laid the paths and I was quite happy to wield a pickaxe. <br/><br/>“It’s gradually evolved over the years. In 2000 we built a stream and two years later built a second stream.<br/><br/>“We used to use head torches in the dark evenings and do the work in the garden.<br/><br/>“It’s the Black Country and as we always say it’s where the black country turns green. We have no houses behind us. <br/><br/>“We’ve got a variety of evergreens. We created the garden with lots of views, anchor plants. In the winter it’s lots and lots of bulbs. We’ve got colour all year round. <br/><br/>“A lot of neighbours ask advice sometimes, we all have larger gardens. We’ve had no formal training. It’s just been trial and error, a lot of error. <br/><br/>“We know what we need now. You have to look at the plants to see which is being the most dominant. Sometimes you have to meditate. <br/><br/>“We’ve been here for 42 years now and we’ve mastered our garden.")
