The UK announced it will open a US counterpart to its AI Safety Summit institute in San Francisco this summer to test advanced AI systems and ensure their safety. The expansion aims to recruit a research director and technical staff headed in San Francisco and increase cooperation with the US on AI safety issues. The original UK AI Safety Institute currently has a team of 30 people and is chaired by tech entrepreneur Ian Hogarth.
