The bands usually form a special formation marking each year's show and theme and usually the music featured includes a mix of different paced music. In recent years the Massed Highland Dancers have joined the Pipes and Drums performance and many of the bands provide musical support to individual acts particularly accompanying the Highland Dancers but also when appropriate for other acts. For example the Cape Town Highlanders performed alongside the South Africa Navy Band in 2004 and The Black Watch were given a special march on during the 2003 performance.<br/><br/>The Massed Pipes and Drums also feature heavily during the combined Massed Bands and Pipes finale with lone piper performing at the end of the show.
