A CAR CUSTOMISER has built a spectacular Chevrolet low rider boasting over 600 custom parts. Chris Roark, from California, has transformed a 1958 Chevrolet Impala after his previous show-winning car, called The Perfect Score, was destroyed in a crash. Chris told R.Rides: “The Perfect Score was a three time Lowrider Magazine show winner and, on our third title coming home, we were cut off and we got swiped over onto the embankment. The trailer came loose from our toe rig and the car was totalled. That loss, it was very, very tough.” After the accident the other members of the Traditional car club encouraged Chris to create another car in honour of The Perfect Score. From there, The Final Score was born. The impressive lowrider was customised in every way possible with Chris estimating there is close to 600 custom machine parts in the car. This included the door handles, which were shaped for pop doors. The interior was made with full leather ostrich skin, with custom logos engraved on the seats. And everything matches, with the whole engine was engraved to match the outer pinstripe paint. Even the motor was customised, a LS1 that came out of a mid-80s Corvette. Chris told R.Rides: “When I look at the Final Score, I see engineering, craftsmanship and detail.” Despite the success of the original lowrider, Chris’s fans weren’t immediately approving of his new build. Chris explained: “A lot of people didn't take to it when it first came out. They were like, ‘What is this?, this doesn't look good, what are the colours that are mixing?’ “But a couple years went by and now you start to see a lot of people starting to entertain all these different colours.” The lowrider has built up a legion of fans, but will Chris continue building these cars? He said: “It’s tough as you get older, you slow down. I have my son and my nephew that are young guns and they've been keeping the fire under me to keep me going.” Chris’s son, Chris Jr is now leading the next generation of car customizers. Chris Jr told us: “My favourite part of the low rider is when you could get in it and drive, put the top down, just have fun. And they're different, they're unique, not everyone likes low riders, but everyone has their own different tastes. I just like to be behind the wheel and feel the creation of building something that’s unique like this.”

According to new research, commissioned by PetSafe and conducted by OnePoll, cat owners still have a lot to learn when it comes to knowing all about their cat counterparts.

Even though nearly all cat owners (92%) believe they’re knowledgeable about cats, as part of a recent poll of 2,000 American cat owners, most don’t know basic facts about their feline — or its health needs.

Cat parents, on average, gave themselves a four out of five rating for how well they take care of their cat and reported they believe their cats would also give them a four out of five for being superb owners.

Yet, within the survey, cat parents confessed that, on average, they forget to fill up their cat’s water twice per week and even forget to feed their cats three times per week.

Wales is the kindest region in Great Britain.

Research, of 2,000 adults, revealed those in the country will carry out an average of eight acts of kindness each week, compared to the six that people in the East of England will accomplish.

Londoners took second place, closely followed by the West Midlands, and adults in the North West - while those in the East of England and South East residents came bottom of the pile.

It also emerged one in four adults across the country volunteer, dedicating an average of eight hours of their spare time each week.

The research was commissioned by Nissan, which is working with The Richard Whitehead Foundation’s Supported Runner Project [www.whitehead.foundation/supported-runner-project-overview], to help make Sunday's TCS London Marathon more inclusive.

It comes after the study also found 56 per cent would volunteer to help a disabled friend or person complete a sporting event, if they were equipped with the right tools and training.

Gold-medal winning Paralympian and Nissan GB’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Ambassador, Richard Whitehead, said: “It’s fantastic to see how people support each other across the country and so many would be willing to help disabled runners if they had the tools and training to do so.

“Helping others is not only incredibly important, but also very rewarding, so we’re delighted to give people the opportunity to do so around mass participation running events.

“The Supported Runner Project provides comprehensive training to volunteers, allowing them to offer all-encompassing support to runners with physical or neurodiverse disabilities before, during and after each event, helping to remove some of the challenges and barriers to entry that they may encounter.

“We’re looking forward to seeing the impact this will have at this year’s race and hopefully we can inspire even more people to take part in the future.”

The study also revealed the top 30 things people do to help others, with showing their appreciation (60 per cent) and holding a door open for someone else (59 per cent) coming out on top.

Donating old belongings to charity (44 per cent), checking in on a friend (37 per cent) and taking a parcel in for a neighbour (45 per cent) also made the list.

And while 51 per cent are kind because it’s part of their personal values, 28 per cent said it makes them happy and 27 per cent like to feel they’re ‘doing their bit’.

Half would like to help people out more often than they currently do, and 34 per cent would even go as far to say they wished they were a kinder individual.

A lack of time (42 per cent), money (41 per cent) and an introverted personality (34 per cent) are among the things holding people back from being more compassionate - although 43 per cent believe they’ve grown kinder as they’ve grown older.

It also emerged three quarters recognise the power of kindness, as they feel it has a positive impact on their relationship with others.

In August 2022, Aravind Srinivas and Denis Yarats waited outside Meta AI chief Yann LeCun’s office in lower Manhattan for five long hours, skipping lunch for the chance to give the NYU professor a demo of their AI program. Once they showed him how their model could search through platforms like LinkedIn, GitHub and Twitter and surface content that GoogleGOOG -1.8% could not, such as the accounts that most frequently replied to LeCun’s tweets, he was impressed enough with the program’s accuracy to invest.

He was one of several tech VIPs, including Google Chief Scientist Jeff Dean, former GitHub CEO Nat Friedman, OpenAI cofounder Andrej Karpathy and prominent angel investor Elad Gil, who got similar personalized demos — and collectively invested $3.1 million in a September 2022 seed round. “It was very relatable for them to go and search about their own Twitter,” Srinivas told Forbes.

Read the full story on Forbes: https://www.forbes.com/sites/rashishrivastava/2024/04/11/inside-the-buzzy-ai-startup-coming-for-googles-lunch/?sh=576d9dbb1781

Subscribe to FORBES: https://www.youtube.com/user/Forbes?sub_confirmation=1

Fuel your success with Forbes. AN AMISH BUGGY that would normally be drawn by horses has been fitted with a turbo jet engine. “It’s like oil and water, they should not go together,” jokes its creator Chad Clark. The outrageous project, built by Chad Clark and Mike Monter of Millersburg, Ohio was originally meant to be something very different. “Mike and I were at our local county fair, I mentioned it would be really cool to build a turbine-powered four-wheel drive pulling truck,” Chad explained. But the auction description had misrepresented the engine as a turbo shaft engine. “I went home that night, found an engine online and bought it but didn’t realise it was not turboshaft, it was turbojet only,” Chad remembers. They ended up having to use a much lighter vehicle instead of the original truck. “We live in the Amish capital of the world so we figured an Amish buggy would be perfect,” Chad said. Co-creator Mike Monter told Future Studios Cars: “He called me up, said we’re not doing a pulling truck anymore, we’re doing an Amish buggy – seemed natural.” The build and modifications cost around $30,000 and took roughly 700 hours of labour to complete: “Many all-nighters,” Chad said. When out in public, people struggle to believe the bizarre creation actually works. “When people see the Thunder Buggy they can’t believe their eyes and the first question is, does it really move? Yes it does,” explained Chad. Traditionally, these buggies would have been moved by horses so this particular one is far from conventional. “The buggy is not designed to take 100 feet of electrical wiring, fuel tanks and a jet engine,” Chad admitted. With a top speed of 65 miles per hour before the wheels start shaking, this exhibition-only vehicle was not built for speed: “It’s a really simple engine design, it’s some pretty awesome engineering from back in the 40s,” explained Chad.
