Electrification continues at BMW Group Plant Leipzig: Four months after launching production of the combustion-engined MINI Countryman, the all-electric version is now rolling off the lines at Leipzig as well. After phasing out production of the BMW i3, the birthplace of electric mobility at the BMW Group has welcomed another fully electric car to its range. It now manufactures four models with three drive types by two brands, all on a single production line: the BMW 1 Series, the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer (including the plug-in hybrid version), the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe and the MINI Countryman in both its fully electric and combustion-powered versions.<br/><br/>The MINI Countryman Electric represents a major step in the MINI brand’s transition to full electrification by 2030 and combines an electrified go-kart feel with zero local emissions mobility. It comes in two fully electric variants: the Countryman E and the more powerful all-wheel Countryman SE ALL4.

THE ULTIMATE overland camper has brought the world’s most comfortable off-road experience to life. Mike Hallmark oversaw the creation of the ‘Hellwig Rule Breaker’ - a 2016 Nissan Titan fitted with a 2017 Lance 650 camper, resulting in what Mike calls a “ridiculously limitless and over-the-top adventure-mobile”. Mike and his team at Hellwig Suspension Products came up with their unique design for the 2016 SEMA car show. The company’s Big Wig airbags in the vehicle’s wheel wells allow this one of a kind souped-up pickup to ride level with maximum comfort while navigating any terrain. Mike said: ”When you think of a camper you think of a white truck and a white camper, with a white-haired dude driving it at 45 miles-per-hour. We wanted to go the complete opposite, so we did a yellow truck, black camper with some graphics on it to really catch your eye and make a splash in the market.” The addition of the Hellwig rear sway bar provides enhanced control while carrying the camper, which features a full audio system, TV, fridge, bed, full-size wet bath, and living area. To accommodate all the added weight, Mike and his team also added Falken Wildpeak AT3W LT 325/65R18 tyres, which beefed-up the truck’s on and off-road handling capabilities. Mounted on the front bumper are Baja design lights, fog lights, projection lights, and a full light bar that allows the driver visibility while traveling at night or off-roading. The whole thing is powered by a Cummins 5.0L V8 turbo diesel engine.

The twin-turbo V8 combines the high linearity of progression that made the Lamborghini V10 famous with the high power and specific torque of a new-generation turbocharged engine.<br/><br/>The twin-turbo V8 features displacement of 4.0 liters and an exceptional specific power of 200 CV/liter. The maximum power delivered by the ICE will be 800 CV between 9,000 and 9,750 rpm, reaching a maximum engine speed of 10,000 rpm: a figure normally reserved for racing engines and making the new V8 unique in the landscape of road-going super sports cars. It is also unique in terms of the maximum torque delivery of 730 Nm between 4,000 and 7,000 rpm, with an exhilarating progression similar to that of a racing engine, thanks to the perfect integration of the electric unit with the combustion engine.<br/><br/>The rear electric system designed and developed for the new V8 is positioned between the combustion engine and the dual-clutch gearbox and includes the inverter as well as the axial electric unit. It is capable of generating high torque and power values, with a maximum of 300 Nm and 110 kW at 3,500 rpm, while still keeping compact dimensions and low weight.<br/><br/>Another crucial element of the design process was to define the sound, to give the new powerplant a unique and distinctive character and deliver the driver an unparalleled driving experience. The characteristics of the new V8 intensify in a crescendo that at high revs reaches its peak in terms of volume and frequency content and this, in harmony with the vibrations transmitted to the chassis by the flat-plane crankshaft, creates an all-encompassing sensory experience.
