Four of them, three men and one woman lost their lives on the spot, a young boy was among the casualties.<br/><br/>Almost thirty persons were involved in the accident. Two people, including a young girl sustained serious injuries, while six others were transported to a hospital with lighter injuries. Sadly, the young girl succumbed to her injuries on Tuesday morning, 26 March 2024.<br/><br/>According to eyewitnesses report, neither the driver of the rally car nor the spectators had a chance to avoid the collision. Coming from Lábatlan in Komárom-Esztergom county, along a slippery road where other competing cars had already skidded off without consequences, János Tóth vainly tried to counter-steer, the out of control car slid and slammed into a gate entrance after hitting the spectators.<br/><br/>The name of the five victims were not released.<br/><br/>Owing to the tragedy, the rally was immediately stopped. According to the Hungarian National Motorsport Association (MNASZ), dozens of spectators, including the deceased people, were standing in a prohibited area. An affected Eddie Sinton crashed in the last race of the season at the Sunflower, braking his pelvis. The shocking sequence of occurrences was enough to make him retire from competitions.<br/><br/>Sinton spent the following two years without racing, but in 1997 he decided to return with a new Honda 600 cm3. However the season was to be short-lived, as he crashed at Dundalk in June, breaking his collarbone.<br/><br/>The following year he was on his bike again to obtain in tewo years a remarkable sequence of good finishes which resulted in Eddie being offered a machine of the Moira Club for the 2000 season.<br/><br/>With a competitive bike Eddie obtained a third place at his home circuit of Tandragee and another third place at Skerries. John Ennis was the winner of the previous edition of the Classic 250 race at Mid-Antrim, in 1996.<br/><br/>The Mid-Antrim Motor Club staged the first Mid-Antrim 100 (later 150) in 1946 on the Ballygarvey Circuit, outside Ballymena Co. Antrim, Northern Ireland. The race was run over a 6-mile (9.654-kilometer) public roads course. In 1947 the circuit was changed to a 10.4 mile (16.734-kilometer) public roads course with the races being run in a clockwise direction until 1954, and from 1955 in the reverse direction. This circuit was used until 1963. Later the Mid-Antrim 150 Road Race necessitated the move to a different track, the 5.7 mile (9.17-kilometer) Rathkenny Circuit. It happened at approximately 16h45 on Saturday, 02 August 1997.<br/><br/>On the final lap of the race, John Ennis lost control of his motorcycle at the Alexander's Leap, along the Cloughwater Road in Broughshane within the Borough of Ballymena, County Antrim, Northern Ireland. The bike crashed into a wall and John Ennis was killed almost instantly. Another competitor, John Campell was involved in the accident, suffering a broken leg.<br/><br/>The meeting was abandoned, following the tragic accident. John Ennis was the winner of the previous edition of the Classic 250 race at Mid-Antrim, in 1996.<br/><br/>The Mid-Antrim Motor Club staged the first Mid-Antrim 100 (later 150) in 1946 on the Ballygarvey Circuit, outside Ballymena Co. Antrim, Northern Ireland. The race was run over a 6-mile (9.654-kilometer) public roads course. In 1947 the circuit was changed to a 10.4 mile (16.734-kilometer) public roads course with the races being run in a clockwise direction until 1954, and from 1955 in the reverse direction. This circuit was used until 1963. Later the Mid-Antrim 150 Road Race necessitated the move to a different track, the 5.7 mile (9.17-kilometer) Rathkenny Circuit. He was killed instantly, his wife and co-driver Sandra Seymour escaped without serious injuries.<br/><br/>The accident happened on Mount Roland, during one of the final stages of the rally. Following the accident, the event was declared non-competitive. The accident took place about 11h45 on Sunday, 08 November 2014.<br/><br/>44-year-old Ian Baker, from the state of Victoria, Australia, was thrown into water when the powerboat driven by Daniel McMahon, from Perth, Western Australia, flipped over. The boat towing two water skiers was doing trials for the memorial Bridge to Bridge Classic Race when it went out of control and crashed. The driver and his observer were thrown into the water before a rescue boat picked them up and took them back to shore.<br/><br/>Ian Baker was pronounced dead at the scene. Paramedics and the Westpac Rescue Helicopter rushed Daniel McMahon, who suffered serious shoulder and face injuries, to Westmead Hospital. The two water skiers swam to shore and were not injured.<br/><br/>After the accident the qualifying session was stopped and all events on the river were canceled for the day. Racing resumed only the following day. An iconic event in the Australian water sports calendar, the Bridge to Bridge Classic Race was held annually on the Hawkesbury River since 1961.
