Half of young children experience low confidence because of their imperfect teeth causing both them - and their parents - stress and anxiety.

A study of 2,000 parents and children aged 4-11 found 84 per cent reckon their smile makes them feel less confident.

They blame this insecurity on missing teeth (20 per cent), them not being “white” (20 per cent), wonky (19 per cent) or gappy (13 per cent).

But acclaimed British photographer Ian Rankin has captured powerful photographs of primary school children proudly showing of their imperfectly perfect teeth, and showcasing the wobbly, gappy and snaggly gnashers in all their glory.

Ian partnered with Aquafresh after research revealed 36 per cent of kids have been embarrassed to smile or laugh due to how they feel about their teeth.

This devastating statistic truly demonstrates the impact of low confidence on the youngest in our society.

But it's not only children that are being impacted by the pressure for perfect teeth, but it’s a worrying time for parents too.

Almost half (48 per cent) noticed their child becoming self-conscious or lacking in confidence due to how their teeth or smile look.

A further 43 per cent said their children are impacted by society’s obsession with “picture perfect” teeth, and almost all (98 per cent) believe dental health is an important factor in their child’s overall confidence and self-esteem.

Ian Rankin said: \

Much like when I found out that Zendaya’s last name is Coleman, I was shook when I found out that Billie Eilish and Finneas’ legal last name is O’Connell. The siblings have been megastars for years now, and for some reason, I never thought about their last name. This was especially true for Billie, I just assumed her legal surname was Eilish. However, it’s not, and the siblings hilariously explained why that is.

Since 2019, and the release of “Bad Guy,” the world has been aware of Billie Eilish and her brother Finneas. They’ve created massive tracks for Eilish, became Oscar winners in 2022 for their James Bond song “No Time To Die,” and produced “What Was I Made For” which was featured in the 2023 movie schedule hit \

A man was finally about to hug his brother for the first time after a dream where he had a sibling prompted him to take a DNA test and discover a new family member. Despite moving to the Katy, Texas, area, Phuong Doan did not know that his half-brother, Juan Lewis, had attended high school just down the road. In fact, Phuong, who moved to the United States from Vietnam in the 90s, had been searching for his American family for five decades, having been made aware that his father was once in the U.S. military when he met his mother in his homeland. Phuong's half-brother, Juan, meanwhile, had no idea that he had a sibling with ties on the other side of the world, either, as his father, Melvin Lewis, passed away in 1988 and never mentioned the subject. It wasn't until Juan, who was also in the military, came down with COVID that he had a chance dream, which he said informed him that he had a sibling. Juan puts the vision he had down to the drugs that he was taking to fight the disease – but the experience was enough for him to look into his genealogy. When a DNA website matched Juan with Phuong, the Air Force veteran thought there must have been a mistake, given how different Phuong's name sounded from his own. But having contacted the website, Juan was informed the match was correct, and so he and Phuong started messaging, piecing together their incredible story. The pair were in contact over the years that followed before Juan and Phuong's wife, Linda, decided to plan a surprise first meeting for her husband. In September 2023, at a salon where Linda works in Katy, Texas, Phuong was chatting to his wife when Juan and his family walked in for the big surprise. A stunned Phuong could not believe his eyes, heading over to his half-brother for an emotional first hug that had been fifty years in the making.
