Buzz poised to hit showroom floors later this year, VW Senior Product Planner Ryan Gavin gave Forbes a sneak peek at the 2024 New York International Auto Show. <br/><br/>Between its history-inspired body lines and optional two-tone paint schemes, the ID. Buzz will draw as much attention as modern exotic cars, and not just from aging Deadheads. While its exterior styling borrows heavily from the original VW Microbus, including the oversized “VW” front logo, rear roof pillar air vents, and boxy shape, the interior features an array of modern tech. Dual power-sliding doors and a power rear liftgate feature Volkswagen’s “Easy Open and Close” tech, meaning a simple swipe of your foot beneath the doors will cause them to open (assuming the keys are nearby).<br/><br/>Once inside passengers will find ambient lighting, an optional panoramic sunroof with electrochromic tinting (can go from clear to opaque at the touch of a button), and a standard 12.9-inch central touchscreen featuring wireless App-Connect technology and wireless device charging. Flexibility comes from a removable center console, a sliding second-row seat that also folds down or reclines, a removable third-row seat, and standard features like a heated steering wheel, heated, ventilated and massaging front seats, heated outboard second-row seats, and a nine-speak auto system (a 14-speaker Harman Kardon system is optional).<br/><br/>With its impressive standard equipment list, wide range of interior and exterior design options, and advanced technology, this electric van could have the same impact on Volkswagen’s brand as the 1998 New Beetle, meaning a flood of demand from both traditional and new VW customers, along with a level of cultural impact worthy of the ID. A RENOWNED automotive artist has built a $500,000 motorhome that you can drive from the roof. Randy Grubb, from Oregon, is well-known for building beautiful and unique chrome vehicles. Some of his masterpieces include the Blastolene Indy Special, Jay Leno Tank Car, Decoson and the $500,000 motorhome - the Decoliner. Inspired by the 1980s sci-fi space traveller Flash Gordon, Randy spent over $100,000 in parts and 6,000 hours in manpower on the stylised mobile home. Using the chassis of a 1973 GMC motorhome which sports a front-wheel drive, it allows the frame of the Decoliner to be very low to the ground, around 14 inches. This means that Randy had enough space to stack the vehicle as a double decker and for an additional driving position on the roof low enough to fit under most bridges and overpasses. Randy and his wife drove the Decoliner all over America, putting over 15,000 miles on the camper without being stopped for the unusual driving position.

Bentley Motors announced the company’s most visually striking SUV to date, the Bentayga S Black Edition. Identified by the first application of black-tinted wings to a Bentley in 105 years, the S Black Edition combines vivid accent colours, rich black detailing and confidence-inspiring chassis technology, revealing the darker side of the Bentayga. <br/><br/>Customers can choose from seven accent colour specifications: Mandarin, Signal Yellow, Klein Blue, Pillar Box Red, Ice, Hyper Green, and Beluga. Each of the colours bring eye-catching yet cohesive design both inside and outside, contrasting with stealthy black treatments across the car.<br/><br/>On the exterior, the accent takes the form of a laser-like stripe on the Styling Specification body kit below the front bumper and side sills and across the top of the rear spoiler. Brake calipers are painted to match, adding a splash of colour behind 22” black-painted wheels. As per the standard Bentayga S, all exterior brightware is replaced with gloss black versions - but theS Black Edition is the first model in Bentley’s 105-year history to include the Bentley Wings and lettering in matching gloss black. The final exterior detail is a Black Edition badge located on the rear D pillar.<br/><br/>At the start of the year, a host of new features have increased the desirability of the Bentayga range even further. With the exterior of the car remaining fresh, the scope for increased personalisation has been increased with seven new satin paints, a new additional exterior colour and a new 21” wheel option in three different finishes. Priority has been given to the driver and passenger experience with new chassis technology, new electrical architecture and additional features, including a reprofiled front radiator grille. The introduction of all wheel steering at the launch of Bentayga Extended Wheelbase increased handling and manoeuvrabilitywhilst also reducing the turning circle by nearly 1m. This system is now included as standard on both the Bentayga Azure and ‘S’ V8 models.
