The average Major League Baseball team is now worth $2.4 billion, 4% more than a year ago. With the exception of 2021— when the Covid-19 pandemic disrupted the 2020 baseball season—it was the first time values increased less than 4% year over year since 2010.

The good news? Since Forbes first began doing valuations of MLB teams in 1998, when the average team was valued at $194 million, owning a team would have beaten inflation by more than five-fold and beaten the S&P 500 (excluding the reinvestment of dividends) by nearly double.

Revenue in MLB rose 10% in 2023, to an average of $378 million per team—the steepest increase since 2015. That increase was due to record ticket, merchandise, television and licensing revenue. But operating income (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization) only went up 6%, to an average of $19 million due to more spending on players, technology and analytics.

Forbes’ team valuations are enterprise values (equity plus net debt) based on historical transactions and the future economics of the sport and each team. Revenue and operating income (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization) are for the 2023 season and are net of revenue sharing, competitive balance taxes and stadium revenue used for debt service. Ownership stakes in regional sports networks, as well as related profits or losses, are excluded from our valuations and operating results, as are investments in real estate and other businesses. (For all-inclusive sports ownership valuations, see the 2023 Sports Empires rankings.) Sources include sports bankers, team and league executives, public documents like leases and filings related to public bonds, and media rights experts.

Read the full story on Forbes: https://www.forbes.com/lists/mlb-valuations/?sh=12ce2ca1421d

Subscribe to FORBES: https://www.youtube.com/user/Forbes?sub_confirmation=1

Fuel your success with Forbes. Forecasting investing cash flow involves predicting the cash that will be used for or generated from investments in assets such as property, plant, equipment, and financial instruments. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to forecast investing cash flow:

Review Capital Expenditure Plans: Start by reviewing your company's capital expenditure plans. These may include investments in property, plant, equipment, and other long-term assets. Identify the timing and magnitude of these investments.

Asset Depreciation: Consider the impact of depreciation on cash flow. Depreciation expense is a non-cash item that reduces net income but does not affect cash flow. However, when you purchase new assets, you will incur cash outflows that need to be accounted for in your forecast.

Asset Disposals: If your company plans to sell any existing assets, forecast the cash inflows from these disposals. Consider the expected sale price and timing of the transactions.

Acquisitions and Investments: If your company plans to acquire other businesses or make investments in financial instruments such as stocks or bonds, estimate the cash outflows associated with these activities. Consider the purchase price, transaction costs, and any financing arrangements.

Divestitures and Dividend Income: Forecast any cash inflows from divestitures or the sale of investments. Additionally, consider any dividend income from investments in stocks or other income-generating assets.

Financing Arrangements: Consider the impact of financing arrangements on investing cash flow. For example, if your company plans to finance capital expenditures through debt or equity issuance, forecast the cash inflows associated with these transactions.

Non-operating Income or Expenses: Identify any non-operating income or expenses related to investing activities, such as gains or losses on the sale of investments or impairment charges on long-term assets. Adjust your forecast accordingly.

Tax Implications: Consider the tax implications of investing activities. Certain investments may have tax consequences that affect cash flow. Consult with your tax advisor to ensure your forecast accurately reflects these considerations.

Scenario Analysis: Conduct scenario analysis to assess the impact of different variables on your investing cash flow forecast. This will help you understand potential risks and opportunities associated with your investment decisions.

Build the Forecast Model: Use a spreadsheet or financial modeling software to build your investing cash flow forecast. Organize your forecast by month, quarter, or year, depending on your needs.

Validate and Review: Validate your forecast by comparing it to historical data and adjusting as necessary. Review your assumptions and make sure they are realistic and based on reliable information.
To obtain Canadian citizenship, the first step is to attain permanent resident status through programs like family sponsorship, economic immigration, or refugee resettlement. After becoming a permanent resident, applicants must meet residency requirements, having resided in Canada for at least three out of the last five years. The physical presence in the country is essential, and time spent abroad is not counted unless the individual was a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident on a work or study permit.
Filing income taxes in Canada is mandatory for permanent residents, covering all the years of their permanent residency. Language proficiency is another crucial aspect, with applicants required to demonstrate basic skills in either English or French by taking a language test like CELB or TEF.
A multiple-choice citizenship test awaits candidates, assessing their knowledge of Canada's history, geography, government, and values. Study materials for the test can be found on the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) website. Upon successful completion of these steps, individuals are invited to attend a citizenship ceremony where they take the oath of citizenship and officially become Canadian citizens.
As the process can be time-consuming, early planning is crucial. Detailed information about the requirements and application procedures can be found on the IRCC website.
